Remembering Barbara “Jane” Wheeler
Barbara “Jane” Wheeler, age 76, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on August 23, 2019. She was born April 4, 1943 to Lewis and Leona Kentner in Miami, Oklahoma. Jane is survived by her sister Ann Spies, her daughters, Jana Gray, husband Jackie, Kimberly Lawson, husband John and Marcia Briscoe, husband Dan. Her beloved grandchildren, William, Jesse, Whitney, Jaclynn, Tucker, Mason and Shane. And her 9 great-grandchildren. When her girls were grown, she relocated to Stillwater, Oklahoma where she was an active member of the community, and belonged to Stillwater First United Methodist Church. In the early 1990's she owned and operated Mr. G's retail clothing store in the Student Union at Oklahoma State University. She also began her career as a house mom at Alpha Chi Omega.
In the 22 years she spent as our House Director, she impacted over 1000 Alpha Chi Omegas. She was known for her manners- teaching each of us the proper fork to use at our formal dinners, for her sense of humor, her love of gardening, her unlimited knowledge about our house, and about all the members in it. She loved the women of our sorority so much, she made a life-long commitment to it by becoming an alumna initiate in 2000.
In 2017, Jane and her dog Princess relocated back to the OKC metro where she enjoyed spending time with many friends and relatives and remained on the Housing Corporation until her passing.
Over 60 Sisters were present at her memorial, and have been sharing memories with each other and her family since.
We would like to honor Mom Jane’s memory by dedicating the courtyard to her. The goal is to make it a peaceful, beautiful sitting place- with flowers, tables, lights, and a lyre stained into the cement.
